Alumni
Heather Broyles
Heather was a member of the THS Band from 1994-1998. During her freshman
and sophomore marching seasons, Heather played piccolo, changing to mellophone
for her junior and senior marching years. In the midst of symphonic season,
she was found on oboe. Heather's accomplishments while in the band include:
• All-State East (Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years)
• All-State (1997)
• UT Honors Band
• TTU Honors Band
• ETSU Honors Band
• Govenor's School of the Arts
• Indiana University Summer Music Camp
• Won the Director's Award for Outstanding Musicianship her senior year.
And now, she will tell us her current status:
" ...Currently a Junior at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville,
Tennessee, where I am a music education major, playing the oboe and English
Horn in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, University Orchestra, the top
woodwind quintet, and the Bryan Symphony Orchestra. I also give an oboe
recital and play at the Double reed recital every semester. Come see me
play sometime! I Also march mellophone in the Golden Eagle Marching Band
and a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, a coed, professional music fraternity.
I will get my bachelor's degree in music education (hopefully) in 2002,
and move on to graduate school to get my master's degree in oboe performance.
Someday I will get my doctorate, but I might take a break after grad school.
I'll never forget my years with the THS band. The experiences that I had
and the friends that I made will always be a part of my memory. Mr. Romines
will always be the one person that has greatly influenced my life in all
facets. If it wasn't for him and the great friends I made through band,
I would be a complete different person today.
