1996 Alumni

Nicholas Jackson
Nick wrote in and gave us his band info!....... " I was a member of the THS Band from 1993-1996. I played Baritone and Euphonium. During my years with the band I made 3 trips to the UT Honors Band as well as contributed to the success of the marching band through marching instruction and participation in the Baritone section. I was band historian in 1996 and I also won the Romines Memorial Scholarship that year. From 1994-1996 I served as the Band's first know Aide de Camp. From 1996-2000, I attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville majoring in music education. I was also a member of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band from 1996 to 2000 and went to the Fiesta Bowl in 1999 and 2000. In January of 2000 I transferred to ETSU to finish my music education degree. I look forward to hearing from all my friends that were in the band!"

Holly Jones
I was in the band from 92-96 under the fabulous David Romines participating in the marching, symphonic, and basketball bands. I was the assistant drum major my senior year as well as co-section leader for the clarinet section. I went on to attend the University of Tennessee and was the assistant drum major for the "Pride of the Southland" marching band my junior year (the first female in the history of the university!). After majoring in Music Education for 4 years I had a change of heart (and majors) and will be graduating in December with a degree in Sociology. The best news is that I'm getting married this summer on July 5th!!!

Beth Sharrett
1992-1996 mark the years the THS Band was home to Beth Sharrett. Beth was involved in both marching and concert band, playing flute and piccolo. Currently, Ms. Sharrett is a Senior K-8 Education Major at Tennessee Technological University and plans on graduating in May of 2000. Like all former alumni, Beth has many memories of high school, but claims what she will really remember when she looks back will be her times with the Mighty Viking Band. The undefeated season her freshman year, the great marching competitions at Enka, South Doyle and Appalachian State, and the many friends band friends she made is what Beth Sharrett will cherish forever.

Marcus Smith -
Marcus was a member of the THS Percussion Section from '92-96. During his years in the marching band, he was found on bass drum his freshman year, and quads his sophomore, junior, and senior year. Where is Mr.
Smith now?! Marcus can be found in Texas, where he is a senior Airman in the United States Air Force. Working as a Russian Linguist, he was recently named Technician of the Year for 1999 and awarded a trip to England for his outstanding work. Marcus and his wife Tina were also greatly blessed very recently with the birth of their first baby girl, Lauren MacKenzie Smith. Lauren was born on January 22, 2000 at 8:18am and weighed 7 lbs. and 4 3/4 ounces. Marcus, Tina, Lauren, their cat and
2 dogs all reside in San Antonio, where Marcus is currently stationed at Kelly Air Force Base.

Updated 8-14-01:
Marcus has recently been promoted to Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He is currently stationed in Monterey, California, where he is enrolled at the Defense Language Institute. Upon graduation in December, 2001, Marcus will be stationed in Germany, where he will be working as a Russian interpreter. Marcus hopes to be able to visit with many of his friends during the month of January, 2002, while he is in Bristol, before he ships off for Germany. Be sure to e-mail him!

Updated 3-24-02:
Marcus is now stationed outside Frankfurt, Germany, where he's working as a Department of Defense International Arms Control Interpreter and Treaty Weapons Inspector. He will be going on trips to Russia and the former Soviet Union, to make sure they have exactly the number and type of weapons they are allowed to have, according to their treaty with us.
Marcus and his wife, Tina, are expecting another baby in August, 2002.
Stay tuned, while we keep you posted on his exploits.

Updated 1-26-07:
Since the last update, Marcus and Tina have added to their family:
Kaitlynn Alexis Smith was born on 11 August 2002, Jillian Paige Smith was born on 7 November 2003, and Isabella Breen Smith was born on 1 February 2006. Marcus and his family are currently stationed at Travis Air Force Base, California. Marcus is still working as a DoD Arms Control Interpreter and Inspector.
